Gayà is already among the hundred players with the most official matches in history
José Luis Gayá is completing a great start to the season at Valencia CF, which has also led him to be called up by Luis Enrique for the Spanish national team. In addition, after participating in the draw against FC Barcelona, the local player has placed himself among the hundred players with more official matches (155) in the history of the club, equaled with the Uruguayan midfielder Miguel Ángel Bossio and the Paraguayan defender Aníbal Pérez.
In his fifth season at Valencia CF, Gayá has played seven of the eight LaLiga games (he only missed Anoeta against Real Sociedad) and two Champions League group stage games, in Mestalla against Juventus and at Old Trafford against Manchester United. On the other hand, he played September 11th with Spain on the ninety minutes of the victory against Croatia 6-0 at the Martínez Valero stadium, corresponding to the second day of the group stage of the League A of the UEFA Nations League.
With 155 official matches, the Valencianista is getting close to Jonas Gonçalves and Javier Farinós with 157, Pablo Hernández and Enrique Buqué with 158, Fernando Ansola with 159, Sergio Lloret and Darío Felman with 161 and Pablo Piatti with 162 clashes.
In this special Centernary year, Gayà has become one of the captains of the current Valencia CF, with which he has 124 matches in the First Division, 9 in the Champions League, 7 in the Europa League and 15 in the Copa del Rey. He is only 23 years old.
